Therefore, she gained interest in spreading information about these underrepresented viruses with hopes that it may spark research to find therapeutic options for these diseases. In the future, Michelle hopes to develop therapeutic and chemotherapeutic agents that mitigate severe side effects patients are facing with current common therapies.

Upon reading Fixing My Gaze by Susan Barry, I was inspired by the struggle of visually impaired communities, especially how binocular disorders such as infantile and accommodative esotropia affected her childhood development. Barry’s experiences with strabismus taught me the importance of vision to be active participants in the world, continuously moving through it, and molding it to our needs and desires. Reading about these struggles motivated me to pursue a more practical aspect to help these communities by creating an initiative (Touch to Read) which produces tactile books for visually impaired children and generating conversations around this nuanced public health issue via periodicals.
