One problem with reopening is that there are people who seem to think the pandemic is over. For those who are not staying informed, wearing a mask just seems like an inconvenience or a perversion of American exceptionalism. However, there is an obvious problem with this attitude. I think many of us saw that viral picture of some guy on a flight in the United States wearing his face mask over his eyes. Just this morning as I embarked on a flight that I needed to take to get back to school, there was a woman fighting a flight attendant over being asked to wear a mask that covers her nose. Reopening is causing some people to go back to normal far too quickly. This just means that the pandemic will plague the United States for even longer than it already has.
