I believe that music is, without a doubt, incredibly healing and helpful towards individuals who are suffering from severe mental illness. I have friend that went through a phase of depression through numerous reasons including family dynamics, school, and social life. However, he attended music therapy sessions, where he listened to music that helped him find his inner-peace. Although he is not completely over the illness yet, he is rapidly improving his condition.

Anne Hathaway has always been one of my favorite actresses; however, I did not know that she was suffering from severe mental depression due to her coveted look. With this post, I came to realize that mental depression is something that one can overcome (not completely, but partially) by spending time and effort to fight against it.

@vpathy20 I totally agree with you that aging and depression feed off of each other. As you mentioned, cognitive impairment can lead a patient to be stuck to express pain. This can lead to significant issues of not being able to reach out to look for medication on time and so forth. This cycle can last.

@Hyunseo Kim I totally agree with your statement that high rates has a strong correlation with the fact that mental health is taken more seriously in society today. We are educated from a young age from wellness classes in the States or PSD classes in the UK that your personal wellbeing is the most important part of your everyday life. As this subject matter is discussed more frequently and seriously, the quality of education can be linked to such high rates.

In Korea, there is a stigma of sanatorium, especially among elderly patients who are active patients of depression. Sanatorium, as a medical facility for long-term illness, can differ significantly depending on your economic status. In Korean media, sanatorium is portrayed as a negative thing, although there is nothing wrong about reaching out to seek for treatment and help. I think the STIGMA plays a big part.

Yes, I believe that vaccines are safe and effective and are tested enough before they are recommended for practical use. According to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, every licensed and recommended vaccines go through years of safety testing procedures including a clinical trial. Vaccines are tested on people who volunteer to get vaccinated, and FDA uses the information from these tests to decide whether to test the vaccine with people. Clinical trials usually start with 20 to 100 people, but the sample ends up to include thousands of people. Because vaccines are given to millions of healthy people — including children — to prevent serious diseases, I believe they are and should be held to very high safety standards.
