In Forum III - Marijuana
Currently, the unauthorized possession of any amount of cannabis/marijuana is a crime in New Zealand. However recently, there have been many policies being put forward regarding decriminalization vs legalization of marijuana. In my mind legalization is synonymous to commercialization where as decriminalization involves removing the criminal penalties for possession, for example, personal use, with a sliding scale in terms of personal limits. Which policy do you think is better?

In Cases of Depression
After messy divorce in 2007, Witherspoon stated she had to battle in order to keep dark thoughts at bay during that time. The things that helped her during this time was "close friends" who "came over, stood [her] up, put [her] in the shower, put [her] clothes on, took [kids] to school, and brought [her] dinner". From this experience, she reflects that she learnt to take responsibility for her own happiness.

In Adolescent Depression
Historically I feel the media has played a big role in representing an inaccurate depiction of depression - creating a stigma hence making it difficult for people to admit their mental health illness. However, now-a-days the media actually seems to be educating people and lessening the confusion and misunderstandings around mental illness. Would you agree or disagree?

In Forum I - Vaccines
Vaccinations - to be or not to be - has turned into a very heated debate over the past few years and this debate was sparked following the publication of Dr Wakefield's (now discredited) research paper on the relationship between autism and vaccinations. However, the fraud perpetrated in his paper is continuing to impact global health. An outbreak of measles at Disneyland in 2015 continued to deepen concerns at lack of vaccination as this was a disease which had been eradicated in America since 2000. The consequences of this study on global health shows the importance of following the proper scientific process and ensuring results are not biased by personal beliefs or with the motivation of publicity. It angers me that the incentive for many parents to not vaccinate their children stemmed from Wakefield's study. In what other cases have discredited studies impact on global health?
