That's interesting. It's important to note that statistics regarding this issue can also be misleading and can misrepresent the scale of this problem.
For instance, the WHO reports that late life depression affects only 7% of elders worldwide. This statistic on face value rings no alarm.
However, it's also estimated that more than 90% of elders don't receive adequate care for depression.
Clearly, more credible studies with diverse takes on this issue should be encouraged, in order to further our understanding of the magnitude of this health problem.
