I'm curious to know and think it's really interesting to see the global trends in pandemic education. Feel free to respond with a quick phrase or sentence!
I go to boarding school in the US. We'll have classes in-person with strict physical distancing and face mask regulations. Living conditions are going to so different from past years, but our school is planning on having "family units" of 4-5 students: these students won't have to wear masks or distance around one another. International students, like me, can choose to return to campus or participate in classes virtually. Think of our reopening plan as flexible!
I go to an international school in South Korea. We are adopting a blended learning approach, a hybrid between virtual learning and on-campus learning. We go to school bi-weekly and in days when we're at school, we have to maintain a 1m distance and keep our masks on at all times. There are taped arrows in the hallways to avoid interactions when going up and down the stairs as well. Our after-school activities such as athletics are still going on but when students are not at school, athletes have to do home training! I hope in the near future everything comes back to normal :)
Going to college in London this term! I'm not actually going, which was a hard decision I had to make after a long discussion with my parents. Being reckless, I wanted to go despite there being a higher risk of catching COVID than if I stayed in Hong Kong. They didn't want me to go. (They were right.)
Part of the reason we made this decision was because all learning materials – lectures, forums, written assignments – were going to be online. The only academic aspect I would be missing out on were the 1-2 hours of in-person teaching a week. It's not entirely worth it. Many extracurricular activities will continue to be online, like club updates and Zoom events. I just hope I'm not missing out on too much. (I was already a new sophomore back in high school, which was a little tough).
Good question. As far as I can tell, there isn't much of one!
