This is interesting as although medical marijuana is legal in the US, it is still illegal in New Zealand. Despite this fact, I feel that because of the media this culture of smoking pot is considered 'edgy' as the US media often glorifies marijuana smoking. I think teens in NZ are highly influenced by these mediums and to live lifestyles depicted in trendy videos.
The frequent talk of marijuana in the media definitely brings peoples' attention to it. It also creates a popular culture around it, causing audiences to feel as if they need to jump on the bandwagon, or feel that they are entitled to legal marijuana. Although this provides a platform for discussion about the topic, it could be negative attention, rather than meaningful discourse with a concern for public wellbeing.
