The discussion in this forum highlights several insightful ideas about the role of culture in this controversy. It seems that the legalization of marijuana has more to do with the public will, stigmas, and deep-rooted cultures than with purely scientific facts. For instance, people are fearful of marijuana, even though smoking or drinking alcohol could have worse health repercussions. Therefore, I'd argue that the push for legal marijuana needs to be rooted in more than just a legislative basis—the society needs to be ready for its legalization. Because culture and popular sentiment is unique to every society/country. The debate isn't a matter of right or wrong, but rather of IF and WHEN. Just because it's legal in one state doesn't mea nit ought to be legal in another. What are your thoughts? Do you think that there any tangible repercussions to the legalization of marijuana in only some regions?
