Currently, the unauthorized possession of any amount of cannabis/marijuana is a crime in New Zealand. However recently, there have been many policies being put forward regarding decriminalization vs legalization of marijuana. In my mind legalization is synonymous to commercialization where as decriminalization involves removing the criminal penalties for possession, for example, personal use, with a sliding scale in terms of personal limits. Which policy do you think is better?

I really like how you defined the two terms separately and distinctly. I personally believe that decriminalization should be the first step, although it will definitely be more difficult if legalization does not occur politically. What are some ways you think decriminalization can occur? Do we really need legalization to push for decriminalization, or is there a different way we can go about it?
