I think social media and phones are merely the products of modernity. People argue that they increase the depression rate, but I don't think there is a direct connection between these two things. For instance, we live in a very globalized age, and information reach across continents within seconds. However, there are also cons to this rapid change. People are drifting apart from each other because our friends are all over the world. Everyone lives so far apart from each other, and we need social media to keep in contact. Teenager's social circle rely on technologies, and I don't think it is realistic to blame social media are the cause of the problem.
